During World War II, thousands of U.S. service members came to Northland and created connections in the area that continue to the modern day. 80 or so years later, the U.S. Marine Corps Band is back for a one-off free show.

The 24 travelling musicians of the Marine Corps Band demonstrate the core values of honour, courage and commitment through the balance of musical excellence.

The band will play a mix of rock, pop and country music including well-known American classic tunes.

The Marine Band is performing around New Zealand and the tour is linked to the United States Embassy. The Embassy maintains an ongoing interest in U.S. history and connections in Te Tai Tokerau.

U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand Tom Udall stated, “We are fortunate to have the Marine Corps Forces Band Pacific come from Hawai’i to Aotearoa to play community and school shows in Wellington, Auckland and Northland. The areas where our troops came in the 1940s were impacted by their arrival and we see this as a way to give back to those communities.”
