Join us at the Mercury Bay Museum to celebrate Matariki!
Matariki signals the Māori New Year. It is a time of renewal and celebration in Aotearoa New Zealand that begins with the rising of the Matariki star cluster. This is the first year that New Zealand has acknowledged the Maori New Year with a public holiday, so why not celebrate a moment of history, at a place of historical significance!
Entry will be by koha/donation for the entire whanau to enjoy a day at the museum.
We have a new Matariki exhibition that is interactive and the whole family can learn about the constellations in our sky along with the importance of Matariki.
There will be some great activities for the kids, and it’s the perfect opportunity to check out the new exhibits that are on display incase you haven’t been in for a while.
If you have any questions, feel free to pop in or give us a call.
