NZ Music Month has been developed to support the NZ music industry. During May we celebrate NZ music, and this special concert brings some of those unique favourites spanning the past century and influenced by both Māori music and the music introduced by settlers.

With such a wealth of songs to choose from, the treasure chest will be opened by our performers, releasing tunes to evoke our fondest memories. The evening will consist of four sets by four talented performers. We look forward to your company for a night filled with a night filled with great music, nostalgia and fun.

A wealth of musical talent brings you their choice of favourites kiwiana.

Danni & Hoodz
A North Canterbury duo who have been performing together for 6 years.

Danni, is of Ngāti Mahuta and Ngāti Awa descent, raised in North Canterbury, while Hoodz, is Tainui and Ngā Puhi descent, hails from the far north.

Their vocal blend breathes new life into many of the old kiwi classics they were raised on, and their eclectic musical style is influenced by their love of waiata Māori, Folk, Jazz, Blues, Soul and R&B.
Brought together by their love of music, they enjoy sharing their smooth melodies and sweet harmonies with audiences at public, private and corporate events, as well as their Facebook Live streamed shows, which they began during lockdowns to stay connected and bring entertainment to fans in the comfort of their bubbles.

Brian Clarke
Brian has been an active fixture in the Christchurch music scene for many years, as both a solo artist and musical collaborator, notably with the well-established band, “The Meaniez”. He can be seen playing in any manner of venues and groups from pub-rock bands, duos, busking, music shows, open mics, retirement villages, jamming with friends, campfire singing, or just chilling out at home – in fact anywhere that calls for live music is where Brian can be found. A strong confident singer and guitarist with an engaging stage presence, the ability to play a very wide range of tunes to diverse audiences. Not just a musician, but a true entertainer, who really engages with his audience. If it’s not high-energy late-night pub-rock, it could be soulful blues, quiet ballads, quirky lesser-known folk, humour-laced songs, or even as part of a tribute show. Brian is a versatile all-round musician who clearly delights in performing.

The Saffron Sisters
Kristina Godfrey, Mary Ruston and Frances Caldwell, emerged out of performing trio numbers in a choir. The three liked how their voices blended together, and had such fun rehearsing, that they wanted to carry on singing and hanging out as friends.
While three-part acapella harmonies are at the group’s core, they are frequently accompanied by Mary’s talents on the keyboard. The music is folk-inspired and ranges across gospel, vintage rock, world music and country blues, as well as original songs by Kristina, taken from her album "Good Enough for Love" released in 2018 at Christchurch Folk Music Club.

Port Hillbillies
Emerging from the shadows of the Port Hills, one American, Justin Rogers on mandolin, guitar and vocals, one Aussie Gary Elford on guitar, acoustic bass and vocals. They meet up with a six-toed Kiwi singer, banjo and guitar player Steve Stern to share their love of Bluegrass, Old Time and Americana music.

Playing together now for over five years they have formed into a well-balanced instrumental and vocal trio, driven by Steve’s banjo playing, Justin’s sympathetic and innovative mandolin ornamentation. Gary’s contribution on guitar and bass pulls the whole thing together into the tight unit. They play a range of songs and tunes from toe tapping recognisable standards to obscure songs from neighbouring genres that are given the Port Hillbillies once over.

A night of nostalgia not to be missed.
