Through group music making, and playful games that children love, students develop musical skill, understanding and literacy. This sequential approach develops children's musicianship and confidence. These skills will transfer to any instrument. Kodály students become strong readers, excellent singers, with well developed aural, coordination and memory skills and a lifelong passion for music.

About the tutors:
Loren Easterbrook is a singer, composer, and arranger with a passion for making music accessible to all people. She has a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Jazz Composition and a Masters in Primary Teaching and is completing her Australian Kodaly certification this year. Loren has been teaching music for over a decade and currently works as a music specialist at Medbury School.

Nikki Berry was a founding member of the Canterbury Musical Parenting Association, before Founding The Muse Community Music Trust. After many years of working with adults, especially those who missed out on a solid music education, Nikki is excited to be bringing some of her focus back to young people. Her background is as a songwriter, community choir leader, arranger and singing teacher with a strong interest in making music education more holistic and accessible. She has trained in the Estill approach to singing, completed two Orff levels, and is completing her Kodály certification this year. Nikki leads workshops for singers throughout New Zealand, including the life changing 'Reclaim Your Voice' courses for people who think they can't sing.

About the Kodaly approach
Kodaly inspired teaching is based on structured and sequential learning while giving children an engaging, joyful experience of music. Through singing games and rhymes, in the hands of a skillful teacher, children develop fluency and confidence that enables them to be lifelong musicians.
