This event is part of Conservation Week 2023 - www.conservationweek.org.nz

Join the community for a mahi day on Quarantine Island / Kamau Taurua! There's always lots of work to be done, including seedling release, beach clean up and Litter Intelligence survey.

Boat transport (to be confirmed)

A charter boat will leave Back Beach, Port Chalmers, near the yacht club, at 9.30 am or 10am sharp and return from the island at about 3.20 pm or stay overnight (if viable numbers). We can usually organise ride sharing.

Please park in the car length parks at the sides of the car park at Back Beach (leave the double parks in the centre for vehicles with boat trailers).

A pick-up from Portobello pontoon is also available if we have viable numbers.

We will email you the day or two before (usually early evening) to confirm the event is going ahead and to provide you with up-to-date information including details on ride-sharing.

Keeping well

Covid 19, influenza and other infections are circulating in the community. While masks are no longer required, you are welcome to wear one should you choose. Please postpone your visit if you are feeling unwell and let us know by emailing quarantineisland@gmail.Com

What to bring
Comfortable clothes for often changing weather conditions, sturdy footwear, a plate to share for a potluck lunch, or a packed lunch, and water bottle are all you need to bring! We will provide fair-trade tea and coffee.

Boat transport cost
$20/pp return for adult & secondary school-aged child & $15/pp for primary school-aged child. (Or $10/pp if helping with our biodiversity project). Please bring this in cash, we will collect this when you arrive on the island on behalf the charter operator.

Koha
A $5 additional donation to Quarantine Island/Kamau Taurua is very welcomed, if you are able to do so. Our charity runs the facilities on the Island and the ecological restoration work in the Reserve. Every contribution is greatly appreciated.

For more information, including a map for the Back Beach pick up please visit our website: http://quarantineisland.org.nz/index.php/visit/welcome-days/
