Make your Matariki weekend count with a special planting day high in the hills between Warkworth and Matakana. When the Matariki star cluster shines it is time to plant in preparation for spring growth.

Friends of Awa Matakanakana has collaborated with a farmer to transform a retired farm valley into a wetland. The site is at the upper reaches of Glen Eden River and will enhance fresh water quality downstream and into Kawau Bay. Also, it will recreate an important wetland ecosystem.

Foam needs you to help us get nearly 5000 plants into the earth. Give us a hand.

Please wear sturdy CLEAN closed-in shoes, and bring water, snacks, hat and appropriate clothing for the weather. We will be planting no matter what the weather does.

Bring along CLEAN garden gloves and spades. Some will be available.

There will be a sausage sizzle when the mahi is completed.

Registration is essential, to ensure we have enough kai and to keep you up-to-date on event details.

"Wetlands act like the kidneys of the earth, cleaning the water that flows into them. They trap sediment and soils, filter out nutrients and remove contaminants; can reduce flooding and protect coastal land from storm surge; are important for maintaining water tables; they also return nitrogen to the atmosphere." Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai, Wetlands

Supported by Auckland Council.
