Lieutenant Colonel Dr Cliff Simons is a military historian who specialises in New Zealand's colonial warfare.
Dr Simons will talk about the battle of Te Ranga which was fought on 21 June 1864, seven weeks after the battle of Pukehinahina-Gate Pā. The battle site is on Pyes Pa Road, just south of Aquinas College. Te Ranga had a high casualty toll and brought the wars in Waikato and Tauranga in 1863-64 to an end. Cliff will discuss the lead up to the battle, the way it was fought and the consequences.
