Toby and the Rest Jazz Quartet will be playing at the Harmony Hall Devonport on Saturday 27th bringing you a night of inspirational music. Playing their arrangements of 1950 jazz classics and many of their own compositions. The quartet comprise of four nineteen year olds, Toby Barrett (sax) Max Barrett (drums) Tyler Diprose (bass) and Lucas Kewell (piano/keys) These four young musicians have won many National awards at competitions in Tauranga, Wellington and Auckland. Pianist Lucas, winning the Bill Hoffmeister trophy for most outstanding pianist and most outstanding original composition (Poor America).
The quartet have played at Jazz clubs in Hamilton, Kerikeri, Auckland and most recently at the Whittakers Music Music on Waiheke island. They now bring their vibrant music to Devonport at the Harmony Hall.
Pianist Lucas has recently returned from a World music workshop and live performance in Hungary and a recording session in Istanbul working with world renowned clarinet player Serkan Hakki. Some of the compositions Lucas composed and recorded in Istanbul will be played during the Devonport Gig.
