We meet at Wellington Station (platform 10) at 9.30am to start our full-day tour.

You’re whisked away on our tour bus in a classic Wellington experience, where you can sit back and enjoy the scenery along Highway 59 as we glide up the beautiful coast.

Our first stop has us disembarking at the Wellington Tramway Museum at Queen Elizabeth II park (around 10.15am). We enjoy a morning tea of scones, coffee and/or tea (all included in your ticket), before hopping on the Vintage Tram for a nostalgic ride around the park, drinking in the view of the coastal dunes and Kapiti Island.

Next, we get to explore the Museum itself. A not-for-profit enterprise, this unique museum exists solely for the preservation and interest of all things Tram.

Fortified by our new knowledge, aound midday, we hop back on the bus and travel further up the coast for lunch and music at Blue Train, Chris Evans’ other baby. The restaurant itself is a converted railway carriage circa 1952, originating from the Johnsonville Line. You’ll notice the decadent Art Deco style decor, which, along with the excellent food and music you’re about to enjoy, adds to the indulgent and incomparable Kapiti experience.

You’ll enjoy champagne, freshly marinated salmon, a selection of salads and crème brulée for dessert.

As for the atmosphere and music, you’ll be entertained by one of our talented local musicians. Tour Wellington and Blue Train proudly support the Kapiti music scene by keeping a close network of local artists and hiring our favourite purveyor of tunes on any given day.

Around 1:30pm we head off down the road to the Southward Car Museum. Doing exactly what it says on the tin, you can take pleasure in a variety of world-class and rare vintage-vehicles, whilst absorbing its beautiful park-like surroundings. Your entry fee is included in your ticket.

At around 4:30pm, our legacy journey takes us straight back down Highway 59 to Wellington, to enjoy a beer or wine tasting at D4 Bar in Featherston Street, Wellington Central. Here we will say our goodbyes and you are welcome to stick around at D4 for further drinks or a meal, or browse central Wellington at your leisure.

A minimum number is 8 is needed for the tour to continue. If we cannot run the tour, we will let you know via email 24 hours before the scheduled tour, to advise the tour is cancelled. You can decide whether you get a refund or book another tour at another date.
