Speaker series: Discover a tech-powered narrative of our geological history and how it ties into our cultural heritage.

Join us as we explore the geoheritage of the Thames Goldfields using drone mapping and virtual tools. We’ll find out how 3D modeling and web mapping are helping to uncover stories from the land, and better understand how geology has impacted on land-use and our cultural heritage. If you like rocks, maps, technology or cultural heritage, this talk is sure to indulge and to fascinate you.

Published researcher Vanessa Cocal-Smith is using new technology to help fill in the missing pieces of our geological history. Some of her work has included the development of a virtual mineral repository, where she emphasized the “strong connection between geology and society”, and has included the creation of a fascinating StoryMap of the Thames Goldfields.

Stick around at our EcoHub after the evening’s talk, for stimulating conversations about geoheritage, land-use and environment over warm drinks and snacks.

Please consider contributing Koha towards Kaipātiki Project for hosting this talk.
