Waterways Protection - Free Workshop

Saturday 29thApril – 0930 to 1130

The Kaipara and surrounding environs, whilst some of the most attractive and environmentally diverse areas of New Zealand, face many of the same ecological challenges as other rural parts of the country. Agricultural, commercial and residential activities over the years have created many environmental issues particularly impacting on water quality.

As a consequence there is increasing governmental and local authority focus on upgrading and protecting these vital assets including opportunities for landowners to source expert advice, and potentially, financial assistance to help implement such improvements.

Our guest presenter for this workshop Is Rita Kpodonu, Senior Healthy Waters Specialist with Auckland Council. Rita is a landscape scientist specialising in water quality within agricultural and other rural communities and with a significant focus on community engagement.

She will be discussing the causes and manner in which our water assets are being compromised and government and local policies and legislation in place to attempt to redress the situation; as well as answering any questions you may have.

If you would like to know more about this extremely important and interesting topic and potentially understand how you may be able to manage and protect waterways on or near your property Rita should be able to offer invaluable information.
After the workshop you may like to buy tickets to stroll through the Sculpture Gardens, which are a 4 star Gardens Trust Garden, as well as the native forest trails located adjacent to the Plant Centre.*

There are also games areas and many ideal locations to sit and enjoy a picnic as well as our cute little coffee shop in which to relax.

Please note that the gardens and trails are not suitable for wheelchairs or walking frames *

Venue location: 1481 Kaipara Coast Highway (SH16), 4km north of Kaukapakapa
Tickets: Free admission to workshop
