Dénes Várjon is one of the most exciting and highly regarded Hungarian pianists of his generation. His return to Waikanae with his talented wife Izabella Simon to perform a recital of works for solo and duo piano will be eagerly anticipated by those who have heard him before, in particular his brilliant performance of Beethoven’s Hammerklavier Sonata in 2019. For this concert he will again play Beethoven – the Pathétique, as well as works by Liszt and Bartok. In the second part of the concert the duo will perform Mahler’s Symphony No 1, arranged for four hands by the great conductor Bruno Walter, who was a personal friend of Mahler.

The Várjon/Simon duo have just released a recording of this work to great acclaim and Kapiti Coast concert-goers will be privileged to be among the first to hear this unique version of a work that has been described as “an emotional and philosophical journey”.

Tickets will be available at the door, at Waikanae New World and Moby Dickens Books (Paraparaumu Beach).
