An opportunity to explore a number of significant Greytown houses and gardens where the owners have valued and enhanced the integrity of the building and its environment and so cherished Greytown's heritage.

The Greytown Heritage Trust offers this self-guided tour, unveiling 11 remarkable properties, many open to the public for the first time. Spend the day exploring exceptional houses and gardens in this attractive town, celebrated for its buildings and its environment.

The event is a fundraiser for the refurbishment of Greytown's settler Kōuka Cottage (c1860) at Stella Bull Park, 113 Main Street, Greytown. This cottage and its maintenance are important in fostering Greytown's architectural heritage.

Receive with your ticket:

Access to 11 of Greytown’s significant private homes & gardens
A quality keepsake folding map & information poster. These will be couriered to you nearer to the date.

General information & conditions

Properties are open from 10am until 4.30pm. This tour is self-guided; you can visit the properties in any order you wish.

Each ticket holder will be sent a map by post.  Wristbands will be available at the first garden you visit.

Subsequently, please present your wristband to the volunteers at the entrance of each property to gain access. Please keep your wristband safe  during the tour as they will ensure your entry at each address.

The houses, of course, are private homes. Photographs are available on the Greytown Heritage Trust’s media sites and we ask that you don’t take your own photographs inside houses nor touch furnishings or items. Some areas will be inaccessible and signed accordingly.

Keeping people and property safe, this tour is reserved for those aged over 14. We’re also asking that no animals are brought to the visits unless they are mobility-trained and certified. Accessibility is compromised variously in houses and some gardens.

Greytown public toilets will be marked on the map.

The tour will proceed regardless of rain.

Cash sales of garden related items and homemade items will be available at several properties. The proceeds of these sales will also contribute to the fundraiser.

The Trust is grateful for your support, and wish you a wonderful day exploring and enjoying Greytown’s heritage properties.
