Arts Whakatane

India Meets Ireland is a unique fusion of Indian classical music with contemporary and traditional Irish music. This joyful collaboration will feature Indian ragas with tabla master Basant Madhur and his daughter Sargam, and music from the Irish tradition with internationally acclaimed musician Jon Sanders and his daughter Jenny Os.

Basant and his daughter Sargam play tablas and sitars in the North Indian style and come from a renowned musical family that established NZ’s premier Indian music school in Auckland teaching over 500 students to date.

Jon Sanders and his daughter Jenny herald from Dingle, co Kerry, Ireland and will be using bouzouki, ukulele, guitar, and vocals to blend the flavours of music and song from the wild Irish west coast with contemporary compositions in a unique way.

Both the Indian and Irish cultures share a tradition of families making music together, India Meets Ireland showcases the colourful contrasts and musical magic created by these two cultures through their ragas and reels and reveals that there is more than a little common ground between them!

This is a unique combination of father daughter from two exceptional musical traditions.
