Sundays at Four 2024
Celebrate the joy of live music in a one hour recital series on Sundays at 4pm at The Piano.

Jian Liu will perform a programme of Chinese and New Zealand piano works, presenting familiar and distant sounds from both countries. Drawing thematic similarities and juxtapose in pairs, the programme will feature number of works representation of the unique cultures and landscapes of China and New Zealand, offering a fresh outlook of those fascinating musical heritages.

As an internationally celebrated concert pianist, Dr Jian Liu has performed throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. His artistry has taken him to some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Centre, and as a featured soloist with orchestras including Symphony Orchestra of National Philharmonic Society of Ukraine, China National Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, among others. He is currently the Programme Director of Classical Performance and Head of Piano Studies at New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington. Dr Liu studied with Caio Pagano and completed his Master of Music, Doctor and Master of Musical Arts degrees from Yale School of Music, where he was a student and assistant of Professor Claude Frank.
