Recently made ONZM for services to opera, Grammy award-winning opera singer Jonathan Lemalu returns to Christchurch to perform KINGS AND CLOWNS with pianist Bradley Wood. Inspired by the famous royal and events photographer, Chris Christodoulou, Jonathan presents an evening of music and images capturing his unique journey from a Dunedin upbringing, national choirs and competitions, London’s Royal College of Music, to a freelance opera, concert, recital and recording career spanning more than 25 years, 70+ opera roles and numerous awards and recognitions, often playing kings and clowns (the occupational hazard of an operatic bass) in many of the world’s leading venues, and sometimes in front of actual royalty!
