Trionique in Concert

Overview:

This unique trio of three women, three nationalites, and a very different combination of instruments, TrioNique, have been playing to audiences around New Zealand. Presenting Agnes Harmath-Parkin (flutes), Gabriela Glapska (piano), and Tomomi Johnston (saxophone), these highly skilled and talented musicians are playing an eclectic and engaging repertoire, which should appeal to a broad audience.

Musicians

Dr. Agnes Harmath-Parkin

Agnes Harmath is a Hungarian-born flute player and teacher. She completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Auckland. During her studies she has won numerous national and international awards, and received many scholarships including the Ministry of Education’s Top Achiever Doctoral Scholarship for 3 consecutive years. She has worked as Artist-Teacher at the University of Auckland and played as a guest artist in Flute Festivals in New Zealand, Australia and the United States. Currently, she teaches extensively as an itinerant and private teacher in Auckland schools and freelances as a player with New Zealand orchestras, including Opus Chamber Orchestra, Manukau Symphony Orchestra, and as an associate member of Auckland’s Philharmonia.

Dr.Gabriela Glapska

Polish-born pianist Gabriela Glapska, based in Wellington, New Zealand, holds a Master’s Degree with Distinction from Poland and a 2020 PhD in music from Victoria University of Wellington. A distinguished chamber musician and accompanist, she’s notably associated with the Nelson Composers Workshops and the 44th International Viola Congress. Gabriela champions contemporary music, collaborating with award-winning composers and performing at the ISCM World New Music Days festival in 2022. Co-founding the Ghost Trio, she toured with Chamber Music New Zealand in 2021 and recently received acclaim for Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the St Matthews Chamber Orchestra. She also collaborates with soprano Barbara Paterson, TrioNique, Royal New Zealand Ballet, New Zealand Opera, and Wellington Opera.

Tomomi Johnston

Tomomi Johnston, a Japanese-born saxophonist and educator, immersed herself in competitive concert band activities. Graduating from Oita University’s Faculty of Education, she specialized in Japanese education and acquired music teaching methods. In New Zealand, she earned the LTCL and studied classical saxophone under Michael Jamieson at the University of Auckland. Tomomi achieved first-class honors at the University of Waikato, pursued a Master of Music at the University of Auckland, and held a solo concert in Japan in 2019. Currently, she contributes to the Auckland Philharmonia, Auckland Chamber Orchestra, Manukau Symphony Orchestra and the Australasian Saxophone Collective. Tomomi is also actively performing with ethnic groups, engaging in educational workshops and serving as president of the New Zealand Saxophone Society.
