Eager to explore Aotearoa’s forgotten habitat? From estuaries and lakes to streams and swamps, get to know the wonders of the wetlands!

Once covering the landscape and home to more endemic flora and fauna than any other habitat in the country, Aotearoa has now lost 90% of these spaces due to growing urbanisation. Join our conservation learning facilitators to consider the taonga o ngā repo and how you can help!

Attending whānau will have the opportunity to learn about wild things from within the library; learning to identify endemic species, stages of the eel life cycle, invasive pests and other potential threats. Connect to your backyard, the Zoo and our wider natural environment with a range of hands-on activities that help to translate curiosity and compassion into meaningful actions for taonga. From scavenger hunts and sensory elements, to quiet crafts and setting your own personal conservation goal, there will be something for everyone to get their fins stuck into.
