American rap artist Bas is set to grace Auckland's The Studio and Wellington's Meow Bar, as part of his much-awaited 'Milk Down Under' tour in October.
Bas' NZ dates follow the release of his third and most recent studio album 'Milky Way' (via Dreamville Records). Upon release, the record was met with critical acclaim—with DJBooth calling it "a unique sonic experience," and HipHopDX praising it for its "solid production, solid sound and great vibes."
Persuaded by his friend, the French-born artist thrivingly worked on his rapping skills—breaking onto the hip-hop scene with his 2011 debut mixtape 'Quarter Water Raised Vol. 1'. Bas has recently achieved his first RIAA Gold Certified single with his 2018 hit record 'Tribe'. More recently, he's contributed to J.Cole's latest project 'Revenge of the Dreamers III' which received strong praise from Pitchfork and includes appearances from the likes of Vince Staples, Ty Dolla $ign, T.I., Mez, Reason and Smino. He's featured on four 2019 tracks 'Down Bad', 'Don't Hit Me Right Now', 'Self Love' and 'Costa Rica'. For Bas, touring with Cole fostered his development as a performer, whilst launching project releases (such as 'Quarter Water Raised Me II', 'Last Winter' and 'Too High To Riot') elevated his profile. His latest EP 'Spilled Milk Vol. 1' came out last August 9, and it includes a collaboration with fellow label artists JID, Ari Lennox and Earthgang.
"When it comes to working on and releasing albums, I want to ensure there's some growth, that there are some changes stylistically, and generally that's taken me like two years a pop. But I'm always making music that doesn't see the light of day, and I want to break that mould." - Bas
