Suitable for Ages
Situated at the southern end of Tolaga Bay, 52 kilometres north of Gisborne, Cooks Cove is a stunning part of coastline.
Cooks Cove walkway climbs through light bush and open grassland to the clifftops that lead down into Cooks Cove giving panoramic views. It is a two to three-hour walk and suitable for all levels of fitness, although there is some hill climbing required. Tupaea's Cavern, a natural rock archway, connects Cooks Cove with Tolaga Bay. Captain Cook spent six days in this cove repairing the 'Endeavour' and taking on water and supplies in 1769.
The walk is across farmland, and is closed from 1 August until the last weekend of October for lambing.
