Little Gem Garden Centre

Kerry has spent over 20 years in the Horticulture industry. A year studying Horticulture at Hamilton Gardens in 1994 was followed by many years working around various garden centres across the North Island. A passion for trees and shrub knowledge in particular has built an extensive knowledge in ornamental gardens. Mike has been working in HB garden centres since the tender age of 21 and has a passion for the retail sector.

Since heading back into Landscape Gardening in 2015 we started growing our own plants to provide our clients with more affordable plants for their new gardens. The range has grown and grown to feature a great range of ornamental & edible shrubs, ferns & perennials.

In 2018 we decided it was time to expand operations so have made the move to a lifestyle block in Waipukurau. 2 acres at 2070 State Highway 2 is giving us lots of room to expand our range and numbers. The massive local demand for good quality plants has seen us devolop what was a couple of weedmatted beds in the grass into a full on garden centre offering a range of almost everything.

2020 and 2021 have been quite the rollercoaster but we just went along for the ride and did what we could to keep things going and with everyone stuck at home, gardening has seen a massive resurgence in popularity. However the 2 major issues with the property, difficult access and lack of water saw us having to make the difficult decision that moving was the only way for us to continue to do what we love.

We started the search and found an amazing property down the road in Dannevirke. With a tennis court that could house the garden centre, town supply water, great windbreak protection, a newer house and generous 5 acres of flat land we felt it ticked every possible box, so moved fast to make it happen. A mammoth job ensued to not only move house and kids but a few thousand plants but we got it done and now look forward to an exciting new step forward for our family and business.
