A chance meeting in Christchurch in 2014 ultimately led to the unlikely, but superb, combination of two of New Zealand’s pre-eminent musicians - outstanding classical pianist, Michael Houstoun, and foremost jazz trombonist, big band leader, jazz educator, arranger and producer, Rodger Fox.

Fast forward to 2020, Michael and Rodger will bring their acclaimed concert series to NCMA in April.

Along with the Rodger Fox Big Band and special guest vocalist Erna Ferry, Michael and Rodger will delight the Nelson audience.

Their programme will include:
- Two new arrangements from internationally acclaimed composer - arranger Bill Cunliffe
- Piano and jazz big band material written by one of Michael Houstoun’s favourite artists the great Gino Vannelli. "Brother to Brother" and "Storm at Sunup".
- Mountain Dance, written for piano and big band by Grammy award winning composer and arranger David Grusin

The Big Band will also present material from its forthcoming recording of New Zealand original compositions by composers Anita Schwabe (winner of the APRA 2018 Jazz composition of the year), Daniel Hayles, Lauren Ellis, Ben Hunt, Chris Selley, Bryn Van Vliet, Brian Smith and Rodger Fox.

A concert not to be missed.
