Introducing the artists in this exhibition we open the imagination towards the unknown, the realm of personal insight. Abstract compositions invite multiple meanings that defy stable categorization. Situated between the work of Kandinsky and Frankenthaler, Hannah Goodwin presents delicious cacophonies of colour that shed references to traditional forms, while retaining immediate magnetic appeal. Kirsty Black's art strongly echoes the expressionism of Jackson Pollock's 1943 "Mural" while exhibiting greater visual freedom. Her Diptych "Midnight Conga" portrays a dizzying swirl of heady momentum. Toni Kingstone's resin compositions channel Bruce Riley's work in that she encourages the flow of paint in novel and unknown directions. The result is a stunning display that takes the observer into the luxurious landscapes of untrammeled imagination. Kate Wilson's conceptual work is inspired by the likes of Dali as she converts a concept to a visual medium, placing it on canvas. Like Frida Kahlo, her paintings are rich with symbolic imagery , sometimes blatant, sometimes discreet. Marise Rarere combines the intersecting lines extant in Mondrian's 1930, "Red, Yellow and Blue" composition with Kelly's 1951 "Colours for a Large Wall". Her artistic narrative dazzles, demanding either a concentrated eye or a larger view of canvas that with no singular point of vision, relaxes and calms.
