Kāi Tahu whānui at Ōtākou will host this year’s commemoration of the signing of te Tiriti o Waitangi on 6 February. The theme ‘Waitohu’ acknowledges the signatories who signed te Tiriti on behalf of Kāi Tahu.

Catch a bus out to the Otago Peninsula’s Ōtākou Marae to join with mana whenua in the festivities, starting with pōwhiri at 10am, then cross-cultural entertainment and music from 11am until whakakapika at 3pm. There will be craft and food stalls (bring cash) or BYO picnic.

Expect some walking from car parks if you drive out; there is no parking on Tamatea Road or at the marae, though kaumātua can be dropped off.

These events will be the focus of Waitangi Day events in Dunedin. Haere mai, nau mai, tauti mai – everyone is welcome!
