Matariki is a special time of year. Matariki is a star cluster that appears in our skies in the winter month of Pipiri (June-July) and marks the first month of the Maori lunar calendar. It is a time of new beginnings, reflection, gathering together and celebration.

This month to celebrate Matariki we are making Matariki mobiles that are made up of the 9 stars of Matariki. While creating you mobile you will learn about the stars and what they represent.

All materials supplied, so you just need to pop-in. Activities suitable for 3 years+, parent supervision required.

Craft Corner is a do-it-yourself station inside Huia Lodge that you can stop in throughout the day. There are no instructors leading the crafts, it is self-lead.

July
Saturday 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th
Sunday 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th

The NZ COVID Tracer QR Code will be present at this event and all participants will be expected to scan the code. The code is also placed around the park, in public toilets and within Huia Lodge Discovery Hub. We ask that all participants continue with their basic hygiene practices while at the event and in the park. This includes hand hygiene (washing for 20 seconds, drying thoroughly or using hand sanitiser), coughing or sneezing into your elbow, and avoiding touching your face. Hand sanitiser will be available at the event. If you are feeling unwell before the event, we ask that you stay at home.
