A fully staged production of Mozart's early opera, Il Re Pastore, or The Shepherd King, with five singers starring: Rebecca Ryan and Ben Fifita Makisi and a chamber orchestra conducted by Mark Carter. This is Wellington's own acoustic opera in a beautiful established garden with the beech forest and harbour as the backdrops. Pack a picnic for the Glyndebourne style supper interval, enjoy the very best of New Zealand's opera singers with native birds in the mix. Submit to the sheer beauty of the most beautiful aria "L'Amero" sung by the Shepherd Amyntas with violin obligate.

Summer is glorious here in Days Bay, this year I am delighted to introduce to you Il Re Pastore ( sung in English) composed by the 19-year-old Mozart. It tells the story of the shepherd Amyntas who is living a blissful pastoral life with the young shepherdess Elisa as his future bride, until he is discovered by Alexander the Great and his sidekick Agenor who inform him that he is in fact the orphaned son of a King and therefore must leave his simple life and inherit his Kingdom. Does he leave his sheep and Elisa for a life of power and influence?

The garden gate will open at 5.00pm, the performance starts at 6.00pm with a dinner interval between 7.00pm and 8.00pm ( approx). The evening will conclude at 9.00pm.
