-------
Capoeira is a cultural expression that mixes martial art, sport, culture and music.
With its Afro-Brazilian origins capoeira incorporates the potency of a fight, the fluidity and expressiveness of dance, the soul-calling power of music, the wit and playfulness of games, and the showmanship of acrobatics into one beautiful art form. It is a rhythmic dialogue of body, mind and spirit.
It is its musicality that distinguishes Capoeira from most other martial arts. Practitioners learn not only how to fight and play the game, but also to play the typical instruments and to sing.

More than just a sport
Capoeira includes strenuous physical and acrobatic training, which develops physical capacities and related self-esteem. Like other martial arts, it develops self-control and discipline, but through the incorporation of dance, it allows space for creativity and self-expression. Capoeira is highly collaborative and unlike other sports, there are no winners or losers in Capoeira. The music, along with its history and culture, provide a dimension lacking in most other physical activities. The diversity embraced by Capoeira facilitates the development of tolerance and acceptance of difference.
Ultimately, Capoeira’s multifaceted nature means that it tends to have something in it for everyone, regardless of skills or interests.
