Naghmat Al Sama, meaning "Melodies from the Sky" in Arabic, is a heartfelt evening of music to celebrate the Islamic holiday of Eid Al-Adha. The concert will feature traditional songs and instruments from the Arab-Persian World and surrounding regions. This wonderful event is brought to you in collaboration between Simurgh Music School and Asturlab Cultural Centre.
The lineup of accomplished musicians include Abdelilah Rharrabti, a traditional nasheed singer from Morocco, and Esmail Fathi, a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Iran, together intertwining Arabic and Farsi lyrics respectively. Furthermore the group consists of New Zealand-born musicians Liam Oliver, on Turkish Saz, Persian Setar, Tar and Afghan Rubab, Nelson Myers-Daly on Riq, Frame Drum and Bansuri, and Pragunya Myers-Daly on the Oud, creating a rich tapestry of sounds from the Middle-East on a day of celebration for Muslims around the globe.
