In a celebration of Spring, Camerata Strings presents a concert of music befitting the season of optimism and renewal, with vibrant works such as John Rutter’s Suite for Strings and Adam Carse’s jaunty Two Sketches, both of which use traditional English folk melodies. Purcell’s Four-part Fantasia no.1 continues the English theme, harking back even further and is the latest in the composer’s series of fantasias to be featured by the orchestra. With a nod to the seasonal weather, two movements (Storm and Still) are featured from Weather Map by Christchurch composer Barbara Maguire. Completing the programme are the well-known Nocturne from Borodin’s second string quartet and Handel’s Concerto Grosso op.6 no.6, with members of the ensemble as soloists.
