The award-winning Barden Party is bringing its brand of hilarious musical Shakespeare to the lawn at Old St Paul's.
Bring your own picnic and blanket and settle in for an afternoon of family-friendly magic with a raucous 'rockabilly retelling' of The Bard's tale of love, mischief and mistaken identity.
The Barden Party will navigate the intertwining tales of Beatrice and Benedick, and Hero and Claudio, as they fall in love and fight and reunite by peppering the story with pop songs fused into mostly country, folk and bluegrass-style creations with some 1950s flair. The show features reimagined songs from Beyoncé, Billy Joel, The B-52s and Outkast – all arranged by musical director Jake Robinson.
Born in a Nelson backyard during the height of the pandemic as a way of bringing joy and laughter safely to people’s homes, Barden Party performances quickly sold out across the country, picking up a number of awards and accolades along the way.
Some outdoor seating (on a first come first served basis) will also be available, as will Duck Island ice cream at the OSP snack bar. Feel free to make your way to the lawn and get comfortable anytime from 12.45pm.
We've also got a beautiful heritage wet-weather contingency plan, so if it rains? Well, no ado about anything! Just come to the main entrance of the building anytime from 1.00pm. Grab some ice cream from our indoor snack bar, or bring your picnic, and make yourselves at home.
