The skirl of bagpipes and swirl of tartans will march to the beat of the drums as pipe bands compete here for the first time in a decade. The bands will perform three events - a street march from Aerodrome Road to the reserve on Newton Street followed by two performances in the contest circle. The circle events are a ‘march, strathspey and reel’ and a lively ‘medley’ to showcase their musicality and flair.
A mace flourishing competition will follow the music events with drum majors showing their skills, twirling and launching a mace aloft while commanding a band.
The day will end with the bands performing traditional tunes en masse before the trophy presentations.
The event is free to the public, bring a chair or blanket and soak up the sights and sounds. Some refreshments will be for sale on site.
