Join Hamilton’s premier brass band for an afternoon of quintessential brass band music. It doesn’t get more brass band-ey than this! From classical masterpieces to modern interpretations, enjoy the diverse world of 'a theme and variations'. Get ready to be mesmerised by the skilful musicianship of the talented performers and immerse yourself in the rich history of this musical form.

Musical Director Todd Smith has selected a programme that spotlights theme and variations including Philip Sparke’s Variations on an Enigma - hear each section of the band take their turn with the variations – starting with the cornets. October by American composer Eric Whitacre evokes an autumnal feeling with the simple pastoral melodies and subsequent harmonies which capture the natural soul of the season. Solemn and evocative, Edward Elgar’s beloved Nimrod from ‘Enigma Variations’ is a classical favourite and a piece dear to this band’s heart. Rachmaninoff’s Variation 18 from ‘Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini’ is the most well-known of the variations. As the variation unfolds, be prepared to be drawn into a world of passion and drama, swept away by the music's soaring melodies, lush harmonies and emotional intensity.

Be awed by the skill and musicality of the talented featured musicians as they take centre-stage and weave intricate melodies and harmonies with finesse and flair. From beautiful motifs to dazzling flourishes, each soloist will leave you breathless with their captivating performances.

Featured soloists:
- Richard Edgecombe – Baritone: ‘Silver Threads Among the Gold’ by William Rimmer
- Walter Genefaas – Cornet: ‘Carnival of Venice’ by Jean-Baptiste Arban
- Malcolm Barr – Trombone: ‘Annie Laurie’ by Arthur Pryor
- Walter Hughes – Euphonium: ‘Devil’s Duel’ by Peter Meechan
