Award-winning composer/guitarist Dave Flynn returns to Absurdistan Hall with a new genre-jumping show of virtuoso guitar music, improvisations and songs.

If you saw his previous NZ Tour 'Around the World in 80 Minutes' you'll know that Dave likes to take his audiences on an eclectic musical journey across the globe.

In 'Genre-Jumping Guitar' he takes the concept further, mixing traditional music from his native Ireland with an array of music styles, drawing out expressive and unusual colours from his nylon string guitar.

Expect music by Brazilian legends Villa-Lobos and Jobim, a jazz standard, some blues, African and Indian improvisations, a Spanish dance and some of his own acclaimed minimalist guitar works.

Between the virtuoso guitar solos, Dave will sing some songs from his albums Draiocht and Pouric Songs and a couple of songs, written 20 years ago, that are very relevant to the world as it is today.

This is Dave's first show of 2020, following a year when live music has been practically silenced. He's really looking forward to returning to Absurdistan to connect with old friends and share his joyous, meditative and heartfelt music with new audiences.
