Whānau friendly finger knitting with artist Martin Awa Clarke Langdon.

During the week of Matariki, join artist Martin Awa Clarke Langdon, for a whānau friendly finger knitting making session. Matariki is a time of reflection, realignment and reconnection for all. In this workshop participants will learn a simple loom stitch technique using their own hands as the 'loom'.
This event is an opportunity to kōrero about the meaning of Matariki to us here and now, and through making together connect and reflect on old and new traditions. The workshop is for the young and old, bring the whānau and spend time knitting together.

Martin Awa Clarke Langdon (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Whāwhākia, Ngāti Hikairo, Kāi Tahu) is a multidisciplinary artist, curator and educator. His photographic series To Turn Night Into Day is currently on display in the Courtenay Place Park Light Boxes for the months leading into and through Matariki 2020, Pipiri – Whiringa-ā-nuku.

‘To Turn Night Into Day is about personal moments with whānau, urban observations and abstractions of whakapapa that reflect on a tradition of Matariki in a contemporary environment.’ M.A.C Langdon.
