Charlie Amoah AKA Ras Stone joins the conversation on West African cuisine, Wellington’s music scene and why he decided to call the coolest little capital “home.”

Hear stories from his upbringing in Accra, Ghana, his London travels and his move to Aotearoa New Zealand in the mid-1990s. After settling down in Wellington, Charlie embedded himself into the local music scene via the Rub a Dub Sessions at Bedlam, Wake Up Town with the Nice Up Crew, and his very own Afro Delight Show which has now extended to artisanal products Afro Delight Kombucha n Bites.

Taste-test samples of Charlie’s West Ghanian pastes and original kombucha while you enjoy a bespoke musical performance by the talented man himself.

About Charlie Amoah
Charlie is a multi-talented vocalist, percussionist, and radio host. Originally hailing from Nima-Accra Ghana, West Africa, Charlie moved to Wellington, New Zealand in the mid-90s, and has made the capital his base ever since.

As a performer, Charlie is known for his tasty music selection, conscious lyrics and unique Singjay roots style on various genres of music, ranging from reggae to dancehall to dubstep and electronica.

In the mid-2000s, Charlie created Afro Delight club nights. Originally called ‘Jungle Beats,’ these events brought together various roots music genres from Mama Africa, as a means of sharing and exchanging music as a cultural experience.

Afro Delight is still going strong and you can catch them at local venues such as Moon1 bar in Newtown, Rogue & Vagabond on Garrett St and El Barrio on Dixon St. Afro Delight has also toured nationally, playing various gigs in Tāmaki Makarau.

With his love for food from home, Charlie created West African dishes, a cuisine not readily available in the capital. Using friends and family for tastings to refine his menu ideas and creations, Ras made the decision to go commercial in 2022 and thus Afro Delight Kombucha n Bites was born.

You’ll find Charlie selling product at Brewtown Farmer’s Market every other weekend.
