Torpedo Bay Navy Museum- Te Kainga O Te Waka Taonga O Te Taua Moana

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum - The home of the canoe of treasures of the Sea Warriors. Torpedo Bay on the picturesque shores of the Waitemata Harbour in Devonport Auckland New Zealand is home of the Royal New Zealand Navy Museum.

Torpedo Bay itself is of exceptional heritage significance having been continuously occupied by New Zealand military forces since 1880. Torpedo Bay was a key part of Auckland’s early defence system and is now the most substantial and intact 19th century mining base to survive in New Zealand.

The existing heritage buildings on the site have been redeveloped to accommodate the new Museum. Inside completely new permanent exhibitions showcase the story of the Navy’s contribution to the development of New Zealand’s identity through the lens of the Navy’s values - commitment, courage and comradeship.

The museum is suitable for the whole family, offering guided tours on the weekends, gallery activities everyday of the week, school holiday activities, education programmes for school groups and guided tours on the weekday for 10 or more people by request.
