Pukeahu National War Memorial Park commemorates New Zealanders who gave their lives in the South African War, two World Wars, the conflicts in Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam and on world-wide peace-keeping operations. It also honours the servicemen and women who served in those wars.

Pukeahu National War Memorial Park contains New Zealand's National War Memorial, which consists of the War Memorial Carillon (1932) and the Hall of Memories (1964), the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior (2004), and the Australian War Memorial (2015).

Almost every New Zealand city or town has its own war memorial dedicated to their citizens who perished in conflict. The National War Memorial commemorates all New Zealanders who died in war, and honours the servicemen and women who served their country in war.

The Tomb of the Unknown Warrior contains the remains of a New Zealand soldier who died on the Western Front during World War I, but whose body could not be identified. He is a symbol of remembrance for all the New Zealanders who never made the journey home.

The Australian Memorial commemorates the long and close relationship between the people of Australia and New Zealand.

The National War Memorial is open to the public every day except Good Friday and Christmas Day.
